Columbia Climate School Research Seminar Series – Jeffrey L. Shaman

- Titled “Applying weather and climate modeling techniques to human health outcomes: data-informed simulation, inference and forecasting,” Dr. Jeffery L. Shuman will present recent developments in physics-informed machine learning and artificial intelligence related to weather modeling and even contagious diseases affecting global human health. Infected policies: Medical Populism in Times of Global Crises

- This event will feature three visiting scholars discussing the rise of medical populism as a recent response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Find out what this phenomenon is, considering the rule of law, authoritarian tendencies, and the concentration of political power. It will analyze recent populism as it has oversimplified complex issues, encouraged divisions, and distorted scientific evidence. Lunch will be served. More information.
50th Anniversary of Declassification of Homosexuality as a Disease

- Fifty years ago, the American Psychiatric Association held an unprecedented vote, declaring that homosexuality should no longer be considered a disease in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Speakers will analyze how society and medicine have progressed since then, discussing how they view queer identities with a focus on transgender Americans. More information.
