Columbia Housing released housing information for the class of 2029, announcing that some first-year students will now live in Wien Hall, which previously housed only upperclassmen.
In anticipation of the fall semester and welcoming the class of 2029 to campus, Columbia Housing published updated housing policies on their website, which outline locations, guidelines, and expectations for first-year housing.
Notably, some first-years will now be placed in Wien Hall, a residence hall which has previously housed only upperclassmen. Wein will continue to “primarily house upperclassmen,” with a limited number of first-year students also living in the building. Other first-year housing locations include Carmen Hall, Furnald Hall, John Jay Hall, and Wallach Hall.
The majority of housing protocol and policies remain the same as previous years. First-year housing locations are chosen strategically and are in close proximity to Butler Library, Alfred Lerner Hall, John Jay Dining Hall, JJ’s Place, Johnny’s Food Truck, Ferris Booth Commons, and Columbia Health, which “makes these residence halls a convenient connection to the Columbia community,” according to the Columbia Housing website.
All incoming first-year students are required to live in campus residences, with exceptions granted to students who have obtained permission to live with their parents or guardians and commute to Columbia. Students are also guaranteed campus housing for up to four years, provided they maintain their eligibility.
The first-year housing application is now available and students must complete their Statement of Intent by May 15. Students will receive their housing assignments in July.
