Everyone needs a way to relax. Columbia offers meditation every Wednesday at 6 pm in the Schapiro main lounge. Meditative martyr Fainan Lakha looked to unite with the Divine. I’ve been feeling a little stressed out lately; it’s the end of the third week of classes and everyone is starting to become very enthusiastic (read: […]
Lots of important people have been stopping by Columbia for the United Nations General Assembly just to talk to you! We sent our Mindful Minion Miranda Kantor to see what Herman Von Rompuy–a mild-mannered Belgian whose hobbies include winning the Nobel Peace Prize, writing Haiku, and being president of the European Council–had to say at the World […]
We’re all to blame. (BBC) Too many cars are to blame. And maybe cheese? (CNN) We’re gonna go ahead and blame Ted Cruz for this one. (NYT) Blame it on some Yankee dirt in your eyes. (NYDN) Are you kidding me HuffPost? Just an honorable mention? After all we’ve been through?! Blame listicles and the […]
One of the most beloved features of Columbia housing is the lack of any sort of ventilation system in the majority of undergrad buildings. People who’ve moved into McBain/Watt/Woodbridge/etc during the blazing heat of August know what we mean. There’s nothing quite like lugging boxes, altering bed heights, re-arranging desks, and generally exerting more physical […]
On Monday’s SGA meeting, Barnard Provost and Dean of Faculty Linda Bell graced us with her presence to inform us on the ins and outs of the curriculum review. Barnard Bwog Correspondent Lauren Beltrone was dutifully on the scene to keep you up to date. Provost Bell began the meeting with arguably one of the […]
This Monday’s ESC meeting had all of these things—what more could you ask for? Except maybe 150th anniversary swag. Oh wait, it had that too. That’s right, break out your calendars because we’ve got an impending celebration on our hands. With just about two short months to go until the big official kickoff, which will […]
Last night, we wrote that a USenate position had been vacated and people can apply. The next space will be filled via an “indirect election” whereby 3 nominees are chosen by a panel of “the College’s current senators, CCSC President, and one additional CCSC Executive Board member,” and the winner is voted on of those […]
You may already know this, though as there was a campus wide test of the emergency notification system from 9 to 11 am. But the more fun stuff comes up next: from 11:30 am to 4 pm, the FDNY and the NY State Campus Fire Safety Unit will be on campus “conducting various interactive activities.” […]
A rumination on the nature of Williamsburg. Because that’s a new and innovative source of news (NYT). And they just keep doing it: the New York Times has found the saddest place in Manhattan! Using Twitter! You groundbreakers, you (NYT). An old white male professor is a sexist old white male professor. Shocker (The Atlantic). And […]
40% of CC and 55% of SEAS first-year students turned out to vote for their respective student councils. Full results (with percentages) can be found here. Congratulations to the winners! 2017 CCSC President & Vice President Anuj Sharma & Chris Allison of Morningside Mojo 2017 CCSC Representatives Abby Porter Annette Finnegan of Morningside Mojo Sheila […]
Word from Columbia College University Senators Matthew Chou and Jared Odessky: a USenate seat for the College has opened up. You—yes, you!—can actually apply. Just email the three people in the email you got/that is pasted below. The lucky CC student will be selected via “indirect election,” which is like an election except that the […]
The undergraduate community just received an email detailing an assault on 120th Street. Public Safety is looking for more information. Read the full alert: On September 23, 2013 about 3:40 P.M. a Columbia University affiliate was the victim of an assault on W. 120 St. between Claremont Avenue and Broadway. CCTV shows the males come […]
