Spotlight: Head of the Charles Regatta
One week after splitting the team to compete in two different races on the Passaic and Housatonic Rivers, the lightweight crew team competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend. Joining them was Columbia’s women’s rowing team, in their first meet this non-traditional season. The Head of the Charles Regatta, one of the most prestigious rowing competitions in the world, is in its 49th year of existence and was started by several members of the Cambridge Boat Club on the advice of a former Harvard sculling instructor. The Lions participated in a field of 9,000 athletes and were watched by around 300,000 spectators. A prestigious race for a prestigious school like Columbia.
Yesterday, the men’s team got 13th out of 47 in the Club Eights Men. Today the men’s team participated in the Lightweight Eights, but at writing scores were not available. Meanwhile, the women fought in the Championship Eights. We’ll update once the results come out.
