Something sinister in your drank 2nite

It’s Halloween! The most frightful part this holiday is not the ghosts and ghouls. No, the scariest aspect is the ritual where it’s perfectly acceptable to wear nearly nothing and dress like a pimp or a ho. To build up your courage to wear the itchy, or slutty, costume you’ve chosen for the party circuit, begin with a strong cocktail. You know, to loosen those pesky inhibitions.

If you are still looking for something to do on Halloween, one of the most packed popular events takes place in the Village. After being cancelled last year because of Superstorm Sandy, the parade will celebrate its 40th Anniversary and will look to maintain its reputation as a rowdy affair. Learn more here.

Alternatively, staying local is another good option. Haakon’s Hall (between 118th and 119th on Amsterdam) will be serving great drinks and hosting a live band. Or head over to the nearest liquor store, buy booze, and invite your friends over for a more intimate celebration. You can play my favorite Halloween drinking game where you pick a few scary movies, and everyone takes a shot when one of the main characters screams!

So whether you are heading down to the Village or hosting a dorm party, try starting your Halloween with one of the following drink recipes

Black Martini

Ingredients:

3.5 oz black vodka
.5 oz blackberry brandy or Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur (or use grenadine for a sweeter version)
Raspberries and blueberries for garnish

Directions:

Pour the ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or serve on the rocks in an old-fashioned glass. Thread raspberries and blueberries onto a cocktail skewer, and place in drink.
