The Whitney has just announced the 63 artists who will be featured in the Whitney Biennial on March 17. The artists are notably diverse; coming on the heels of the election period, their artwork will deal with “the artist or a self in relation to the tumultuous world we live in.” (New York Times)

On November 18, the former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos was given a hero’s burial ceremony with military honors. Multiple human rights groups and opposition groups have protested the ceremony. (Reuters)

In Egypt, after General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi led a coup to overthrow the Islamic Brotherhood-held government headed by Muhammad Morsi, hundreds of the Brotherhood’s members were killed or imprisoned; Morsi and other leaders were sentenced to death. However, a few days ago, a higher court revoked Morsi’s death sentence. (The Economist)

In London, a High Court judge ruled in favor of a terminally ill teenager who wanted her body to be cryogenically preserved in the hopes that it would receive a cure in the future. (BBC)
