Golf Team Makes Do With Concrete
Here’s something you knew already: unlike four of our brethren institutions, Columbia does not have a golf course on campus. We do, however, have Low Steps, the fountains, that squiggly line sculpture outside Uris and the lion statue next to the gym. CU golfer Brendan Doyle, CC’12, showed City Room some places to practice on campus. The men’s golf team (which also happened to win its third consecutive Ivy League championsip this year) practices up at Baker, on deserted squash courts, and on virtual courses buried somewhere deep in Dodge. The team’s clubhouse, explained golfer Clark Granum, SEAS’11, is “much quieter than the library.”

The men’s golf team won their second Ivy League title in a row today, coming from three strokes back to beat Penn by one stroke. First-year Brendan Doyle made par on the ninth hole, while his Penn playing partner bogeyed, to keep the title in Morningside. They join the men’s tennis team as the 2nd Columbia sports team to medal this spring.
