Master Class with Johannes Moser and Phyllis Chen Presented by Columbia Classical Performers
Written by Bwog Staff
Cellist Johannes Moser and performance artist Phyllis Chen have come together on the “SoundingOff” tour– a unique project which will bring contemporary classical music to college campuses nationwide during a two-week period in January 2010. With an emphasis on educational outreach and performance, Johannes and Phyllis will present classical and new music in an alternative fashion, and will share with college students the many possibilities that music and art can offer, both creatively and expressively. Performing a series of works ranging from standard classical works to Stockhausen and new compositions, they will use a combination of traditional cello, electric cello, traditional piano, prepared piano and toy piano to show how new trends in modern music can influence classical music performance and presentation today. Event will be held at 112 Dodge Hall.
Cellist Johannes Moser and toy pianist Phyllis Chen will share how their music-making and performances are shaped by the current cultural climate and how classical music has the ability to stretch beyond century-old traditions and become relevant in today’s world.
Students from Columbia Classical Performers will perform selections from Prokofiev, Ligeti and Pekka-Salonen. Reception to follow.
