@Guess Who My legacy is a living people, a living religion and a living state. And there’s a reason my grandparents stopped speaking Yiddish and kept speaking Hebrew.

@Guess Who Yiddish was the language of the ghetto. Hebrew is the language of the Jewish past, the Jewish future, and the Jewish present. Sometimes preservation of a dead culture isn’t a value in and of itself.
@Jewyorican How presumptuous of you. Yiddish is the language of my Jewish past-my grandparents spoke it growing up on the LES, it was the background of my childhood sedars, and it’s how my mother yells at me today. Yiddish should be preserved for much of the same reasons we preserve negro spirituals…culture, by and for us, brilliant in and of itself and for what it stands for in terms of how far we can go.
Have a little pride in your legacy.

@This. Yes. Yiddish culture has been wiped nearly off the map, and there is a standard Romanization for the Yiddish language – use it and help preserve the culture, please.
