Back to School Tips & Tricks for Freshpeople and Forgetful Upperclassmen

We don't want you to feel confused.

Relax, freshlings. We know Columbia can be a weird place, but you don’t have to figure it all out today. Even the most seasoned students can forget about some of Columbia’s quirks after a school-free summer. Here are a few tips to help you along as you adjust:

  • Physical Education classes don’t begin until the second week of classes. We don’t know why. They just don’t. Dance classes, on the other hand, definitely start this week, unless you’ve been informed otherwise by your instructor.
  • Schapiro Hall is a dorm located on 115th and Broadway. People live there. The Schapiro Center for Engineering and Physical Science Research (CEPSR) is located between Pupin and Mudd. People take science and engineering classes there. Unfortunately, many people tend to get the two confused. Don’t fall into the trap!
  • Remember to get your “Fall 2011” CUID sticker in Kent. It grants you free admission to a ton of museums in NYC, courtesy of CUArts.
