Send this to all your Georgetown friends—someone has put Capitol Hill up for rent. While the extra cash won’t really help that much with the budget deficit, it’s probably an upgrade from whatever university housing your friends happen to be staying in.
What would reporting on the shutdown look like if it happened in another country? Slate serves up some sass. Hint: It’s a lot less forgiving than the BBC article on the same topic. Shocking.
On a more serious note, not only has the shutdown reduced services available to citizens, it’s also hurting a lot of government employees. They have, you know, bills to pay and families to support.
