Housing approacheth. And, unless you’re on top of it, it’s probably coming up sooner than you think. Bwog’s got you covered; we’ll be rolling out two housing reviews per day until no residence hall is left un-reviewed. Prepare to get (even more) excited: this year, we’re reviewing Barnard residence halls, too. Reviews for all! Today’s residence hall is… 616 W. 116th Street!

Bwog recommendation:
- Good choice for people going into groups that don’t mind having a combo of singles and doubles
- 616 is a great option for students who like being close enough to campus that it’s not much of a walk in the morning to the Barnard buildings
- For rising sophomores, 616 is pretty attainable if you have a group
Resident opinions:
- “Tends to overheat in the winter”
- “Older building means things break a lot”
- “Most of the kitchens are pretty small in size”
- “Doubles are spacious”
- “The laundry room is huge and you usually never have to wait”
- “It’s nice having the computer lab in our building and not having to leave”
- “Some of the doubles have amazing views over Claremont”
- “The only thing better than living in 616 would be 600 because, well, it’s closest to Broadway”

@616 4ever Sophomores used to be able to get into 616 when Plimpton was all singles, but since the corner rooms became doubles upperclassmen have picked the 600s (with reason – most of the suites are nicer and it’s way closer). The only way sophomores can get into the 600s is if they wait and see if any random doubles are available in suites, and they’ll probably live with a separate group of upperclassmen who snatched up the singles. Or they can live elsewhere in the fall and wait for the juniors to go abroad in the spring – I know a sophomore who moved into a giant single in 620 in her spring semester.
Also, a tip: try not to get a room on the air shaft, especially if the suite is on a lower floor. Almost every suite in 616 has at least one room on the shaft so someone will have to compromise but if you’re prone to getting seasonal depression avoid it at all costs. I still like living here but my room has absolutely no natural light and it can be a bummer, especially since I love the outdoors and tend to keep my windows all the way open all the time. But if you tend to nap during the day you might like it to be dark constantly.
@BC '14 Yeeaaahhhh you are not getting in as a sophomore. The past two years, there were two suites total between 616 and 620 available at the beginning of sophomore day which got snatched up by left-over upper classmen picking later.
@The mice though There are rodents, be warned.
@Anonymous lol there are rats everywhere, even in the quad
@it's fine we’re getting a snake
@Bro Bro Bear what a nice place for a bro to spend a night in. And she can walk me down in PJs to sign me out, and give me a good morning smooch.
@Anonymous unless sophomores have top numbers, they won’t get 616. this is mostly junior housing.
@Anonymous I wish they hadn’t gotten our hopes up…
@cmon bwog There are no all single suites in 616, those are in 620. It might also be important to note that almost all, if not all, of the fifth floor is taken up by social justice house.
C2 and D4 rooms are also notorious for being oppressively small, due to that one corner being cut out.
What line of suite is that in the pic?
