Us too, ESC

Us too, ESC

ESC is at it again, this time with a little less vigor, as campaign season is rolling through and no one really wants to do anything this week.  Bwog sent the one and only, wickedly talented Aparajita Maitra to report.

VP Policy Tanya Shah talked about ways to enforce council member attendance at meetings—should they pass it through student council? The executive board? The dean? Should there be steps before impeachment? ESC debated about whether public shaming is necessary.

The council was asked what student life meant to them. VP Student Life Rushal Rege said they should be trying to build spirit and encourage community whenever possible.  Other members of ESC said that students don’t appreciate when councils try to force school spirit on them.

Quick update: CU Assassins has less than 40 competitors left! Rumor has it that Amazon gift cards are looking to be purchased for winners.

SEAS the Day is on May 3 from 12 pm–2 pm in Furnald Plaza. Cool engineering projects will be showcased.

Class photo day is on April 9 on Low Steps. Seniors at 12:30 pm, and each class 1 hour later. Class pins will be given to the first 500 from each class who come to take the picture (how can you say no to class pins??). Come back at 4:30 for a SEAS 150 photo!

From the class councils:

Class of 2014:

  • Senior dodgeball tournament was a huge success, with over 40 people in attendance. Unfortunately only three IEOR majors showed up, but MechE and ChemE took the trophy home!
  • Raffle for tickets to a Yankees game coming up for senior engineers

Class of 2015:

  • Final preparations for a boat cruise on Thursday, April 3rd are being made
  • More sweater distributions to come

Class of 2016:

  • Sophomore Semi-Formal- tickets are out and ready to be purchased

Class of 2017:

  • Freshman are hosting a trivia-based late night activity during Days on Campus—come meet the little prospies and convince them to become future Columbians
  • Look out for honor code updates at next week’s meeting. Lerner’s Satow Room at 9:30 PM. Don’t disappoint SEAS, be there.

Oh gawd, please publicly shame elected students or do SOMETHING. I find it very sad that councils hesitate to impeach students for fear of hurting their reputation when the students themselves commit the crime of running for a position to simply pad their resume but don't contribute good work.
