Congratulations!
Bwog wishes a big congratulations to the 2014 SEAS valedictorian Alden Quimby and salutatorian Halvard Lange.
Alden is from Lee, New Hampshire and majored in Computer Science with a minor in economics. As his senior project, Alden worked for the New York Department of Health and Medicine to detect food-borne illness outbreaks in NYC through social media.
Halvard majored in Mechanical Engineering and hails from Oslo, Norway. He’ll be completing his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia until December. His senior project was a pedal-powered Strandbeest inspired by Dutch kinetic sculptor, Theo Jansen. A Strandbeest, according to Wikipedia, is a large mechanism able to move on its own built out of PVC.
The val and sal are very impressive and accomplished. Congrats to them both!

@you don't want to know I’ve heard rumors about Alden’s from back in the day… If they’re true, he’s got me by a solid 1.0, which is depressing. Definitely could be true (I’ve been in a few classes with him and he’s crazy smart), but I don’t want to throw unconfirmed numbers out

@Anonymous Freshman year, Alden nearly got straight A+’s. He wasn’t like super studios either. In fact, he was often broing out with friends on the floor. His ability to balance makes him a champ. Seriously, he’s a legend.

@just curious what kind of gpa are we talking here? i know the CC val/sal were like 4.05/4.06, but they aren’t strictly gpa-based. like 4.1?
