Italy’s most active volcano, Mount Etna, erupted for the first time since 2013, sending lava and ash into the sky in a spectacular show. The ash from the eruption caused lighting to strike through the clouds and covered the nearby cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria, where the airports have been closed. Etna’s twitter account provided a very eloquent personal statement: “Being doing lots of cool shit recently”. (NASA)

Audiences across the nation tuned in to NBC last night to catch their third televised musical theatre performance: “The Wiz, Live!”. The production made a strong statement with its all black ensemble, and stirred a social media conversation about color-blind casting. On a much more unfortunate note, Egyptian police are on the look-out for two suspects who hurled firebombs at a Cairo nightclub’s entrance early this morning, killing at least 16 civilians. The attack allegedly occurred after a dispute with staff. (BBC News)
