If you are new student at Columbia this academic year, you are required to complete the Sexual Respect and Community Citizenship Initiative by March 20. If you did it last year, you are merely “strongly encouraged to participate.”
While March 20 may still seem like a far way off, it’s actually the last day of spring break, so this week is the last school week you have to complete the sexual respect initiative.
So how do you complete this initiative?
Well, there are still five workshops to take this week to fulfill the requirements. You can also watch films, answer questions based on videos, get resources on sexual violence recovery, or complete and independent project. All of these options can be seen here.
According to Spec, if you are a new student and you do not complete the sexual respect initiative, you will be stripped of your “good community standing” and no longer be able to take on student leadership positions.

@5-year student Note: If you’re in a dual-degree program, at least with undergrad and one of the graduate schools, you’ll have to complete the requirement twice or be barred from receiving your grad degree. I get that we’re a small population, but you’d like to think the parts of the bureaucracy would at least talk a little better among themselves…
