New York City is packed with amazing culture and inspiring art, but sometimes it’s difficult to break the Morningside-bubble and experience them first-hand. “This Week in the Arts” is a weekly guide to interesting and notable lectures, events, and performances for the literary/musically/theatrically-inclined on campus.

  • Mid-Day Music featuring Lansing Huang and Javier Llaca, 12:00 PM, Garden Room at the Faculty House – Huang (piano) and Llaca (guitar) will be performing Haydn’s Sonata, Hob. XVI:50; Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Fantasia, Op. 125; and Ponce’s Concierto del sur as part of the Mid-Day Music recital series.
  • The Anchiskhati Choir: A Lecture-Demonstration of Georgian Polyphonic Choral Music, 12:00 PM, Sulzberger Parlor on the 3rd Floor of Barnard Hall – The Harriman Institute, partnered with the Slavic Department at Barnard College, presents the Anchiskhati Choir of Tbilisi, Georgia, the “world’s leading exponent of Georgian polyphonic choral music.” (Free with RSVP)
  • Open This End: Art, Ethics & Philanthropy Rountable, 6:30 PM, Uris Hall 301 – “Bruce Kogut will moderate a spirited roundtable conversation with collector Blake Byrne and several guest panelists active in collecting and philanthropy in the arts.” Guests include Amy Cappellazzo of Sotheby’s and Art Agency Partners, Lisa Erf of the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection, Michael Levine of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, and Jack Tilton of the Tilton Gallery.   • Alturas Duo, 8:00 PM, James Room on the 4th Floor of Barnard Hall – “The Alturas Duo has been recognized as one of the most engaging ensembles performing in the chamber music world today.” Blending South American and classical styles, the duo combines the viola, charango, and guitar to create a truly unique style of sound.
