There’s a new gold nugget in town.

I didn’t really know what to expect from BWOG1001: An Introduction to Campus News and Shitposting, but it’s become one of the most rewarding classes I’ve taken during my time at Columbia.

The class does meet at a weird time: 9 pm in Lerner 510 on Sunday nights, but it meant that I didn’t have to worry about class conflicts or anything, which was super nice. Basically anyone who wanted to could show up, even if they weren’t actually signed up for the class. It meant that there’s was always a ton of people there with a ton of crazy ideas like turning Avery into a farm or only eating eggs for a week or campus figures as cement mixers. Other people had specific campus news stories they wanted to cover—a true demonstration of the duality of Man. No matter what, everyone always brought their best pitches every week and when they ran out of ideas, there were always arts, science, and other campus events to cover. Truly something for everyone and like I said, literally anyone who wanted to could show up. Even if they were only coming for the snacks (which are provided—without fail—every week).

All in all, my semesters in BWOG1001 was a crazy, chaotic, beautiful experience and you all should come out at 9 pm in Lerner 510. Also, give Bwog a gold nugget you cowards!!

Workload:

Relatively light. 7-8 posts a semester if you’re just starting out but you can do more if you feel so moved.

I still haven’t gotten my grade yet though; I’m not sure they even give grades in this class. They do give out grapes (green grapes, freshly washed) at every meeting. That might have been my mistake.
