Wanted: Sports Editor and Bureau Chiefs

Hey there. Are you a cool cat who (A) is literate (B) feels particularly passionate about meticulously washed grapes for no apparent reason? Well boy, oh boy, do I have quite the proposition for you! Take off your shoes, dip your toes in the freakin’ water, and join Bwog! In addition to the Daily Editor and Staff Writer positions posted last week, there are a few more roles currently open.

1. Sports Editor

Some Columbia students don’t know what a so-called “basketball” is. Some Columbia students don’t know where in the world Dodge is. Some Columbia students don’t even see Homecoming as more than an opportunity to get inebriated by 11 AM and fall asleep in bed eating Roti Roll on your chest by 2 PM. (And by “some Columbia students”, I 100%, most definitely, am not talking about me).

We’re looking for a Sports Editor to change that! Being Sports Editor entails writing previews and recaps, giving the people the important information (like guide on how to bandwagon for Columbia Football), and even asking the important questions (for example, why is Arts and Crafts a sponsor for Columbia Athletics?). Prerequisites include a working knowledge of sports and an enthusiasm to cover that area for Bwog. Bonus points if you bring us stadium snickity snacks (corn dogs, anyone?) and a dorky foam finger to meeting every Sunday.

2. Bureau Chief Positions

If you like politics, the Bureau Chief Positions are a move. At Bwog, our Bureau Chiefs are reporters who attend one student council meeting every week and write a recap the day after for our site. They are the structural wooden frames holding up the vast house that is Bwog, and these positions are incredibly important for our readers to know what the heck is going on behind the closed doors of the student councils.

As Bureau Chief, you get to learn more about your respective school, its inner workings and history, and some mad political drama to rival even the most riveting episodes of West Wing (see: the impeachment of a president, CCSC’s yearly Secret Santa gift exchange). It’s also a great way to involve yourself in Bwog, if you want to conveniently gain some on-the-ground reporting experience without the semi-intimidation of the pitching process.

We have three (3) Bureau Chief positions open: ESC, CCSC, and SGA Bureau Chiefs. Apply apply apply!

How to apply:

To recap, we have four positions open in total: a Sports Editor, ESC Bureau Chief, CCSC Bureau Chief, and SGA Bureau Chief. We don’t require a formal application. If interested, email board@bwog.com with the position you’d like to take on and why you’re interested in said role. Applications are due this Saturday, September 14 at 11:59 PM.
