Pound cake is a beloved (and already pretty simple) classic, but Bwog Staff Writer Elena Christenfeld decided to try to make the cake with a pound of every ingredient and nothing else.
Pound cake recipes have gotten more complicated since the original pound of butter, eggs, flour, and sugar. I decided to see if the original recipe can still create a yummy, four-pound cake.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of butter
- 1 pound of eggs
- 1 pound of all-purpose flour
- 1 pound of granulated sugar
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 325° Fahrenheit. And butter and flour a large (large) bundt pan.
- Combine the butter and sugar in a mixer until they are creamed and fluffy.
- Keep the batter mixing and add one egg at a time until combined.
- Add the flour slowly into the batter, mixing as you add.
- Transfer the mix to your buttered and floured pan and put it in the oven (325°F).
- Bake for 75 to 90 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool for 15 minutes then remove from the pan and eat!
Sneaking a peak
This is the simplest of pound cake recipes, so the final result is truly just a classic and yummy cake. I will say, a pound of eggs is a lot of eggs, so this poundcake does come out a little egg-ier than most.
