Happening in the World: At just twenty-six years old, Charlette N’Guessan became the first woman to win the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. Based out of Ivory Coast, N’Guessan’s team has been working on a program called BACE API that combines artificial intelligence and facial recognition software to help improve cyber security and protect against identity fraud. Happening in the US: Last week at a California grocery store a bear decided to pursue the aisles for a bit before leaving on its own accord. This is reportedly the second time this has happened in the past month so they really need to get some things together over on the West Coast. (Reuters)

Happening in NYC: A Nike package delivered to a man on the Lower East Side this week was topped off with several live worms. After pictures of the package went viral, Nike offered to replace the items and issued a gift card for the man’s troubles. Maybe they just wanted to send some friends so he wouldn’t get lonely during quarantine. Who Knows? (NBC New York)

Happening Online: Interested in performing arts but don’t know where to begin? The Columbia University Performing Arts League (CUPAL) is having their fall kickoff this Saturday, September 12 from 5 pm to 6 pm. Student groups with interests ranging from dance to theatre to music will be presenting their fall plans and answering questions via zoom.
