Welcome back from the blizzard! Everything is still messed up!

Happening in the world: The military took control of Myanmar and arrested hundreds of lawmakers and Aung San Suu Kyi, the political leader. The UN Security Council met yesterday to form a join statement but failed to issue one as a result of China’s blocking (BBC).

Happening in the US: The Biden administration will start distributing coronavirus vaccines directly to pharmacies in an effort to increase the inoculation rate in the country. These doses will be distributed separately from the state allocation quota. The administration plans to target supplies to pharmacies serving communities that are “socially vulnerable” (Washington Post).

Happening in NYC: Governor Andrew Cuomo is planning on reopening indoor dining in New York on Valentine’s Day. Indoor dining will operate at 25% capacity and will be subject to strict state guidance. The move has been facing backlash since cases are substantially higher than they were when Cuomo opted to shut down indoor dining in restaurants (NYT).

Happening in our community: Today at 6:30 pm EST, join The Tricentennial Project and The Earth Institute for “The Tricentennial Project x Lisa Dale: Adaptation and Resilience on a Global Scale” to dive into wildfire management in the American West as it pertains to sustainable adaptations and changes in the physical environment.
