In my family, the Puppy Bowl is the main event on Super Bowl Sunday.

Happening in the World: A Himalayan glacier fell into a river and caused a flood on Sunday, opening a dam and leaving 145 people missing and eleven dead. Because the glacier was in a remote area, no one is certain of how it burst, although an avalanche is one explanation being explored (BBC).

Happening in the US: The underdogs of the Puppy Bowl, Team Ruff, were three points behind with only a minute left but still managed to fetch a touchdown and win the game. The game occurs annually to advocate for animal shelters, as all 70 pups come from 22 different shelters and are available for adoption (CNN).

Happening in NYC: The MTA deleted a previous tweet relating the removal of benches in subway stations to the prevention of the homeless from sleeping on them. In a statement about the error, spokesperson Abbey Collins explained that a subway is not a worthy place to sleep and that the MTA is working with the city to solve the homelessness epidemic (Gothamist).
