Happening in the World: Armed gunmen killed 13 Mexican police in an ambush attack yesterday. Mexican National Guard forces are searching for the suspects, who are suspected to be affiliated with a gang (Reuters).

Happening in the US: The White House announced plans to share 2.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine with Mexico, and 1.5 million doses with Canada. The doses are among those sitting in US storage, as American regulators have yet to approve the vaccine (NYT). The announcement comes as European regulators affirmed that the vaccine was safe, although it may have an extremely rare side effect of bleeding in the brain (NYT).

Happening in NYC: The New York City Board of Elections finished counting the first race using rank-choice voting. Sylvia Brooks-Powers declared victory in the special election for the 31st Council District (Gothamist).
