There’s nothing worse than when you can’t get a firm grip of it.

Happening in the World: Eight are dead after a plane crash in Milan. The plane, a small private jet, was piloted by Romanian billionaire Dan Petrescu and collided into an office building after what seemed like an engine failure. Luckily, no one on the ground was injured and an investigation has been launched into the crash (BBC).

Happening in the US: Workers off the coast of Orange County worked desperately to contain the damage after 126,000 gallons of oil leaked into the ocean. The CEO of Amplify Energy Corporation, the company responsible for the spill, said the pipeline has been shut off and drained. Still, dead fish and birds have been spotted across the California coast and beaches are closed for swimming (WSJ).

Happening in NYC: A vandal splattered paint on a statue of George Floyd in Union Square on Sunday. The bust, which was just erected on Friday, is part of an installation also featuring figures of Breonna Taylor and John Lewis. The statues were created by Chris Carnabuci and will be in New York until the end of the month (Gothamist).

Happening in the Community: Today, from 2 to 3 pm in Kent Hall, Columbia will hold the Community Citizenship Initiative: Campus Conversations. The event aims to foster communication between students about identity and inclusion. See more details here.
