Happening in the World: US European Command chief General Tod Wolters admitted at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that a possible “intelligence gap” exists that caused the United States to overestimate Russia’s military capabilities. At the war’s outbreak, US intelligence’s evaluation of the situation led many to believe Kyiv would yield to Russian forces within days. However, as the conflict continues, Russia appears to be suffering major military challenges and pivoting strategies accordingly. (CNN)

Happening in the US: On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration authorized second booster doses of Moderna’s or Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine. Later that same day, the Centers for Disease Control issued a recommendation that immunocompromised individuals and those over the age of 50 receive their second booster dose. These moves follow the spread of the newest highly contagious COVID-19 variant, BA.2, which now makes up 54.9% of COVID-19 cases in the United States. (NPR)

Happening in NYC: Uber and Lyft drivers protested outside Uber headquarters at the World Trade Center on Tuesday, frustrated with rising gas prices that have significantly decreased their pay. Since the rapid rise in gas prices, Uber and Lyft have implemented a gas surcharge that would be added to fares to compensate for the drivers’ increased expenses. However, both Uber and Lyft specified that the policy does not extend to New York City drivers because they have a mandated minimum wage. (Gothamist)
