Are you looking for a cozy apartment that gives you that adult aesthetic but is still close enough to campus that you can wake up 15 minutes before your 10:10? Then welcome to Watt!

Location: 549 West 113th Street

  • Nearby dorms: Symposium and McBain are across the street. Broadway and Hogan are just around the block
  • Stores and restaurants: Milano Market, Hex & Co., and Community are a skip and a hop away. With a few more steps you can get to Koronet Pizza, Starbucks, and every other Broadway store.

Cost: $11,026/year (projected 2022-2023 rates)

Amenities:

  • Bathrooms: Private bathrooms in each single/double with tiny showers.
  • AC/Heating: No AC, but suites have a selection of varying-sized windows so, with a bit of creativity, you can vary your room’s airflow.
  • Kitchen/Lounge: A compact kitchen in each single/double; it’s small but somehow fits a million things. It comes with a fridge and a stove but no microwave.
  • Laundry: Each floor has one washer and one dryer. Welcome to the Laundry Games!
  • Computers/Printers: A printer in the lobby.
  • Gym: None, but just think of the short walk to Dodge as your cardio.
  • Intra-transportation: One rusty, metal contraption in the wall that allegedly moves.
  • Hardwood/Carpet: Solid B+ hardwood.
  • Bonus: Rooms on the north side of the building have special access to the back of frat row. It’s like your own private show.

Room Variety:

  • Studio Singles: Two spacious, but shafted, singles on each floor, 171 sq. ft. and 185 sq. ft.
  • Studio Doubles: With nine on each floor, these are the most common room type, and they range from 200 sq. ft. to nearly 250 sq. ft.
  • 1-bedroom doubles: With a bedroom and a common area, these rooms are spacious, giving you 365 sq. ft. Typically, the common area is converted to a bedroom so that both residents have their own room. There are only two of these per floor.
  • 2-bedroom doubles: With 2 bedrooms and a common area, these were built by the gods and have an overall size of either 458 or 480 sq. ft.

Bwog Recommendation:

Watt is great for Juniors and Seniors who want to live in an intimate, homey apartment but still be near to campus. While the lack of AC and a few other quirks might annoy you, Watt makes up for it with a convenient location and a level of privacy that you lost on your first day of NSOP. If you have a roommate that you really vibe with and you want to do sappy, homeowner stuff with them before you leave college then it’s perfect for you!

Resident Opinions:

  • “It’s mostly quiet and you don’t really see other people unless you have friends on the floor.”
  • “I share with my bestfriend and it’s great because we have a lot of space, can cook on our own, and we’re still close to campus.”
  • “The private kitchen and bathroom are really nice, but because everyone has their own kitchen the fire alarm goes off frequently, like once a month.”
  • “One annoying thing is that the garbage disposal is in the basement and you can only access it through the really slow elevator.”
