Happening in the World: Emmanuel Macron and Marie Le Pen, the two candidates running in the 2022 French Presidential Elections, have finally faced off in the first debate. Macron, a centrist, is looking to become the first president to win a second term in 20 years. Polls indicate Macron has a small advantage over his rival leading up to Sunday’s election. (BBC)
Happening in the US: The Florida Department of Education has rejected over 12 mathematics textbooks over the last week. The Department has stated that some contained “prohibited topics,” such as emotional learning or critical race theory. However, they have only released four specific textbook pages showing content to which they objected. (NYT)
Happening in NYC: Thirteen climate activists were arrested and another 19 were issued summonses for billing an entryway to the New York Times’ printing plant in Queens. The activists, who were a part of Extinction Rebellion, were protesting the companies’ advertising deals with fossil fuel companies. (Gothamist)
