Welcome back to campus, Barnumbians! And welcome TO campus to the Class of 2026! We know we’re a few days late to the NSOP train, but we hope that, by now, you’ve settled into your room, met your roommates, and figured out how to use your room key. If you’ve done all those things—great! You’re officially on your way to becoming a functioning member of a college. If not—don’t worry! Bwog is here for you.
Today’s Highlights:
- The Green Sale | Altschul Atrium from 1 to 3 pm: Barnard Sustainability is having a Green Sale! You can buy pre-loved clothes, textbooks, fake plants, fans, binders, microwaves, blankets, storage containers, mirrors, humidifiers…basically every dorm essential you could possibly imagine. The sale items were donated by other Barnard students—during move out or before graduation—which means it’s part of the effort to create a circular, more sustainable campus. (Hence the “green” in the name.)
- Surf, Turf, and Earth | Hamilton Tent at 4:30 pm: Surf, Turf, and Earth is back and better than ever (because the line won’t be as long). A Columbia tradition, NSOP‘s Surf, Turf, and Earth will have lobster mac and cheese, grilled steak, grilled cauliflower steak, and vegan mac and cheese! Eat. Your. Heart. Out. NSOP. This might be the only Surf, Turf, and Earth you’ll encounter without a terrible, two-hour long line.
One Thing To Do Before Graduating: Since it’s so terribly hot and humid in the city, go out and find your favorite park. Picnic in Central Park, go for a walk in Riverside, have a lemonade in Bryant Park—do anything and everything in every park you can easily get to. Finding your own little corner of the city that you can escape to, relax in, and rely on can save you from a lot of boring afternoons! And speaking of weather, when we get our first big snow, toss on your winter gear, grab a friend, and walk around campus before they start plowing. It’s magical. Campus is so quiet, and there are no cars…and you’ll just never forget running down 116th in a foot of snow!
