Happening in the World: Sanna Marin, Finland’s current left-wing prime minister was defeated in the national elections by Petteri Orpo, a conservative party leader. Marin was once the world’s youngest leader when she became prime minister at the age of 37. Orpo received 20.8% of the vote; Marin received 19.9%; and populists received 20.1%, with other parties taking smaller percentages. Marin was previously praised for leading Finland through the COVID-19 pandemic and spearheading Finland’s Nato membership movement. (BBC)

Happening in the US: A storm with strong winds is forecasted to go across several US states from Texas to Illinois. This comes after a strong storm system that affected seven states and killed 32 people over the weekend. Several of the same states may be affected by the second set of storms. President Biden has approved federal funding for three counties in Arkansas affected by the storms. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: The NYPD has charged another suspect in the robberies and deaths of two men who overdosed after leaving NYC gay bars. Jacob Barroso has been charged with murder, robbery, grand larceny, and other crimes. Another suspect, Shane Hoskins, was indicted for the same crimes on Thursday. The victims’ deaths were ruled as homicides by a medical examiner after they died from drug overdoses and had their bank accounts emptied. Police say that 17 robberies are being investigated.
