Get those twelve dollar movie tickets!!!

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Wendy Wang, CC, Political Science, NYC

Claim to fame: Probably not being on campus often enough to have one

Where are you going? Sleeping for a week straight to recover from finals. Then traveling around Europe for a bit and a language program in China. After that, probably more school abroad.

What are 3 things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the class of 2028?

  1. Study abroad!!! I am definitely one of those annoying people who always talks about abroad ~changed~ them.  But in all seriousness, there’s probably no other time in your life you will get the chance to spend a couple months just exploring and living in a new city/area. It’s also a great way to finish your distribution requirements and to test out a new environment with limited pressure.
  2. Try everything. I feel like there are so many amazing experiences and opportunities I got through just impulsively deciding to apply or join something on a whim. Also, along those lines, if you’re on the fence about asking someone for something like an extension, always do it. The worst that could happen is that they say no.
  3. Go to office hours! I know you always hear this, but genuinely professors have them for a reason. Professors love talking about their work, and it’s a great way to get to know your professors, which is important if you apply to any programs or graduate school.

* also, If you’re too lazy to go to Dodge, just go to the closest dorm to you that has one and use theirs.

“Back in my day….” Hartley didn’t have air conditioning. Also they didn’t close the gates every night after sunset.

Favorite Columbia controversy? Probably when it turned out Columbia falsified data to inflate its US news ranking.

What was your favorite class at Columbia? So many: CC with Ali Karjoo-Ravary; Experimental Research with Donald Green, Race and Resistance in Asian American Cinema with Eric Gamalinda. I also think everyone should take a CSER course before they graduate.

Whom would you like to thank? My friends, family, and professors! Also Nobody Told Me’s fries. Instantly makes any day better.

One thing to do before graduating: Get the $12 movie tickets, discounted Broadway tickets, etc. from the Arts Initiative! Also, take full advantage of the unlimited soda machines in the dining halls.

Any regrets? Never sneaking onto the Butler library roof. Also, probably most of the all-nighters I pulled in Butler.
