Panel on Refugee Rights

  • Attend CU Amnesty International’s refugee rights panel to hear experts discuss human rights, immigration law, and the New York context for the current refugee crisis. All students are welcome!

  • Friday, April 5, 7 to 10 pm, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises. 
  • Join Columbia GS Alliance and Columbia Queer Alliance on their first ever queer cruise. You can even bring a non-CUID guest!

Democracy on the Brink: Is the Press Up to the Task?

  • Monday, April 1, 5 to 6:30 pm, Pulitzer Hall, Lecture Hall (Third Floor).
  • Sponsored by the Craig Newmark Center for Journalism Ethics and Security, this event will feature a panel of journalists, reporters, and publishers who will discuss how journalists are handling US presidential campaigns. Issues such as objectivity, impartiality, framing of stories, and the line between opinion and news will be up for debate. A reception will follow the panel discussion.

Affirmation 9: Queer/Trans Eco-Territorial-Bodiments

  • Wednesday, April 3, 6:30 to 8 pm, Avery Hall, Wood Auditorium or online.
  • Attend the ninth edition of the AFFIRMATIONS event series, where designers, researchers, planners, preservationists, and activists discuss redesigning the built environment with attention to climate, ecology, and other factors. This event features a discussion with Marquis Bey, Jack Halberstam, and Paul Preciado.

NYC Feminist Zinefest

  • Saturday, April 6, 12 to 6 pm, Barnard Hall, Fourth Floor.
  • Check out the NYC Feminist Zinefest, where approximately 70 vendors from the US and Canada will showcase their handmade zines that address topics such as race/ethnicity, age and gender diversity, transgender identity, ability/disability, and feminist expression. Tablers include Ari Perezdiez, who runs Brown Recluse Zine Distro, and Mariame Kaba, a longtime organizer and educator. This year, the event also features a Wellness Room hosted by Barnard Wellness Spot Peer Educators. 
  • Registration is not required. Please note that masks will be required from 12 to 1 pm and all day in certain rooms.
