Besides the earthquake, of course.
Post-earthquake, I was pondering in my room. I remember sitting in Butler stacks grinding out the paper I had been procrastinating for the whole week and suddenly felt the floor start vibrating. In an epic retelling of our experience in the midst of a groundbreaking (literally) earthquake, my friend relayed to me that I in fact did not flinch when I felt the ground under me start shaking. When I looked back into my memory, I realized that I just thought the ground shaking under me was normal. I am a native New Yorker so this was not a normal occurrence for me, so what was it about Barnumbia’s campus that normalized the quake? Here are my thoughts.
- Barnumbia is secretly building backrooms where the tunnels used to be.
- The subway aggressively changing course on a whim.
- The bumping bass from the house music being played in the basement of one of the frats.
- Those moles with the work hats.
- The Harlem Shake.
- Barnumbia shaking in their boots because of how much tea is spilled.
- Millie the dancing bear.
- Barnumbia students stomping their feet during women’s basketball games.
- Vibrations from a riff-off hosted by all of the acapella groups.
- The men in Dodge dropping their weights.
Will we forever be wondering, the world may never know.
