I experienced my first Sidechat fame.

Whenever I feel deprived of human interaction, I turn to Sidechat. Whether I want professor recommendations in this age of registration or if I simply want to know if the pizza oven in Diana is working.

Last week, after a run-in with an ex of mine, I called an emergency link-up with my roommate and close friends. I knew that this run-in would have me spiraling out of control, and I needed the support of my friends, who despised my ex for valid reasons.

Once we got together, I was mid-explanation of the dramatic run-in with my ex when my roommate briefly stopped me: “We have GOT to come up with a code name for [my ex].” My friends and I laughed as we all started to imagine the most heinous codenames for my ex internally.

After ten minutes of deliberations, all we’d come up with was Shrek and the universal codename, pineapple. I did not want to disrespect Shrek in association with my ex, so I asked Sidechat—famous last words.

The Post in Question:

After I made the post, I went back to brainstorming with my friends. About two minutes later, my hotline was blinging.

Every other time I have posted on Sidechat, I have only gotten one or two replies. And don’t ask me how many upvotes I have gotten in the past because I typically get downvotes, sadly. So when I unlocked my laptop and saw responses coming in rapidly, I was shocked. Someone had replied, “Who is this diva?” I practically did a cartwheel excitedly. I now only answer to Diva.

Honorable Mention

The replies that I received were quite iconic. Many of them are inappropriate for this article’s inclusion but know that I now have many-a-codewords for my future opps. My friends and I concluded on RATatouille to refer to my ex. If you knew the context to which this codename is relevant, you’d think this was very witty.

The moral of this story is that one day, your big break on Sidechat will come when you need it most. Until then, refer to your ex, campus crush, or enemy as Pineapple like the rest of us.
