Dingles are powerful.

A few weeks ago, I received a mysterious email from a Barnard photographer asking me and my suitemates if she could take pictures of our dorm. Apparently our apartment “was mentioned as a potential room to feature.” I was left with many questions, none of them answered. For example: what? why? And: can I have $20 at least?

My room and the living room in our suite was featured in the second slide of Barnard’s Instagram post to much shock from the community.

Dingle

As one commenter noted:

So yes, this is me. I am the proud owner of a 110 dingle. There are literally dozens of us.

I was unsurprised by the comments on the post, many of which dared Barnard social media to show a Plimpton or 620 suite. Accurate. They only showed really cutely decorated and clean spaces. Which got me thinking… how did they choose my room?

My first thought was that they knew I had a dingle. 110th St is one of the nicer dorms, and they could have assumed that our apartment was nice. But that only explains the choice of building. Why our suite?

My conspiracy is that when ResLife did room checks, they saw how nicely we had decorated the suite. They saw my Bwog Heated Rivalry recruitment poster. My RA is in cahoots with Barnard social media. And they had to come back to deceive incoming freshman about Barnard dorms.
