Tonight at 8 pm in Hamilton 717, Her Campus Barnard and Columbia University’s Amnesty International are hosting a screening of the new award-winning documentary Girl Rising. There will be “snacks“. A discussion of the film’s themes and emotional impact will follow. About the film:
The movie tells the stories of nine girls from different parts of the world who face arranged marriages, child slavery, and other heartbreaking injustices. Despite these obstacles, the brave girls offer hope and inspiration. By getting an education, they’re able to break barriers and create change…. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchette, Selena Gomez and other A-list actors contribute voice performances to the film, which features original music from Academy Award winner Rachel Portman, in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.
Between this and Earth Day, our campus has basically become a free movie theater. Bwog’s pretty okay with this.
