Another school year, another season of Columbia Athletics.  Max Rettig brings you the week’s highlight:

The Lady Lions beat Fordham yesterday in the Columbia Invitational’s second day by a score of 3-1. Moye-McLaren put up a double-double (kills and digs, not points and rebounds). Three frosh-girls also pitched in for the Lion victory, with Jennifer Petrovich padding her stats with 23 digs and 39 assists (that’s a lot, right?), Cassie Wes adding 13 digs and Zoe Jacobs adding 13 kills. Columbia lost the first set but took the next (and last) three rather easily, winning by at least 9 points each time, while their only loss was by a 7-point margin. Bon travail, les femmes!

It should be noted that the Lady Lions lost in 5 well-contested sets to the Binghamton Bearcats in the nightcap.

FYI, bearcats are real Southeast Asian mammals. They are also the inspiration for many school mascots, including, obviously, Binghamton, as well as Cincinnati, and the BearCat is the model name of a .22 revolver. Fun shit. Thanks Wikipedia.

The Lion girls are back on the court next weekend at the University of Virginia Tournament, where they take on Virginia, William & Mary, and Seton Hall.

• Men’s tennis competed at the Princeton Invitational throughout the weekend.  As of last night they were doing pretty well. Scores TBA
• Women’s volleyball lost to Boston College in 5 close sets

Saturday:

• Field hockey lost to Maryland 2-9
• Men’s soccer beat Iona 2-1
• Men’s and women’s golf teed off in Invitational meets at St. John’s and Princeton, respectively. The boys finished the first two rounds in seventh place.  As of this morning, the girls were in fourth place.  Scores TBA

Sunday:

• Field hockey lost to American 4-1
• Women’s soccer tied at 2-2 against North Florida
