jk Pope Gregory VII is where it's at

Pope Francis is Bwog’s favourite Pope

Pope Francis landed yesterday in Washington, greeted by the Obamas, Catholic school children, and friendly chanting. Francis is the fourth Pope to visit the United States, nearly 50 years after Paul VI first visited. Just keep an eye out on Thursday (and send any pics you take to Bwog) when he’ll be in New York. Chinese president Xi Jinping began his visit to the US yesterday as well, landing in Seattle. Most observers believe cyber security (read: Chinese hacking and spying) will dominate discussions before he heads to New York for the UN General Assembly. (BBC)

The European Union ministers agreed yesterday on a plan to distribute nearly 120,000 refuge-seeking migrants across member countries. The issue of these unexpected visitors will be further debated today at an emergency EU summit. (NYT)

The Tony Awards, Bwog’s favourite theatre awards show, will be kicked out of Radio City Music Hall this year…again. Instead the event will be hosted at the much smaller Beacon Theater. Hopefully this is just a temporary visit for the awards show. (NYT)

Today’s Yom Kippur! Jews across the world are visiting their synagogues to atone for sins and ask forgiveness. Bwog wishes everyone celebrating an easy fast. (Time)
