It is now a full two weeks since Columbia’s last day of finals. That’s fourteen days, or 336 hours, or 20,160 minutes. That’s… a whole lot of time. And yet, so many of our professors still haven’t graded our final exams, papers, and projects. You have the time, you don’t have anything better to do, so what gives? Get those red pens going and input our final grades already!
In particular, we want to call out:
- Varzi: Metaphysics
- Gabriel Perez-giz: Physics 1401
- Ross Posnock: American Modernism
- Paul Sajda: Biostatistics for Engineers
- Marcelo Toldedo: MusicHum
- Deborah Mowshowitz: Introductory Biology
- Josef Sorett: Intro to African-American Studies
- Natasha Lightfoot: The Modern Caribbean
- Prezbo
If any other professor is holding out on you, comment their name and class on this post and we’ll add them to the list.

@Anonymous Didn’t you know? Those professulas kept their promise and left the country on account of Trump’s election. They became organ donors in China.
@february 2018 Not true of Mowsh!
@Anonymous At Columbia, 47% of instructors are adjuncts paid something like $4000 per course — many with no health insurance or other benefits, no job security, no professional development. Gig economy ftw! Many profs teach at multiple campuses across NYC to make ends meet. If your grades are late, it’s not because professors have “nothing better to do”: it’s probably because they are juggling multiple far-flung jobs, not to mention family responsibilities. If you don’t like it, use your voice to lobby for better-paid instructors with more job security at one of the best-endowed, most elite universities in the country. Well-paid, secure profs who don’t have to travel all over creation to feed their kids have more time to invest in you, their students.
It’s understandable that you’d be frustrated at the delay in receiving grades, but it’s happening for structural, economic reasons that it would behoove you to investigate rather than simply “naming and shaming” people who have little control over the situation.
@anon Not true of Mowsh!
@Instagram Web Viewer Yes, I agree..
@Anonymous YES! Especially true of Barnard profs.
@Anonymous Administrators are the real money pit. Too many deans who do zero work. Professors are the product and should be paid accordingly.
Solution:
Fire half the deans and administrators (I promise you won’t miss them) and redistribute the money to faculty.
@Anonymous This is already the best comment of the year and it’s only January. Well done. :)

@Olive Theotherreindeer Why are course evaluations due before the end of the finals period? If I’m working on papers, course evals are the last thing on my mind.
@student I think so grades don’t contribute to them
