Pre-gamed too hard and missed Saturday’s Homecoming game? Sports Editor Eunice Bae brings you some stats on this weekend’s matchup against Penn.

It was a bit chilly, but the sun was shining ever so brightly on Wien Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After a little over three hours, this Homecoming game proved to be a TREMENDOUS win for the Lions.

In the Spotlight!

Sophomore quarterback Ty Lenhart (#12) was responsible for three of Columbia’s touchdowns and was named the John Toner Homecoming Player of the Game, having performed extraordinarily throughout the game and led a Columbia offense that dominated the field.

It was pretty impressive that Columbia was up 17-0 by the end of the first half of the game. It was even more impressive that by the fourth quarter, the Lions took a 44-0 lead. A 44-point lead is HUGE in any football game (let alone a Columbia football game). It wasn’t until just under 6 minutes were left in the entire game that Penn managed to squeeze in a measly 6 points.

The jaw-dropping final score of 44-6 made this game Columbia’s… 

third Homecoming victory in the last four years,

third-largest win in school history (tied),

biggest Homecoming victory in school history,

largest victory EVER against Penn,

second-largest win in an Ivy League game (tied),

and biggest win since 2009.

To say the least, this victory hit quite a few Lions milestones.

What’s Next?

This game brought the Lions’ season record to 2-3 and Ivy League record to 1-1. It’s still early in the season, and this game may have been just the game needed to jumpstart the Lions’ season. Next up on the schedule for the Lions is Columbia @ Dartmouth this Friday night (10/25) with kickoff at 6 pm ET on ESPNU.
