Happening in the World: The Israel-Hamas ceasefire came into effect on Sunday, January 19, putting a stop to the Israeli forces’ offensive. Now, as displaced Palestinians journey back to northern Gaza this week, many will find their homes reduced to rubble. (NBC News)

Happening in the US: On the first day of his presidency, Trump attempted to renege on Birthright Citizenship through his executive order on Monday. Despite birthright citizenship being a constitutional right, Trump and his team have challenged this right. Beyond, Trump has pardoned 1500 people from the January 6, 2021 insurrection and brought back construction on the Mexican-American border. (NPR)

Happening in NYC: Overnight, additional NYPD officers began patrolling the trains with another 750 more officers set to join in the upcoming weeks. This is a part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s (D) safety plan for the subway system. (ABC 7)

Happening in Our Community: Soup is almost back to Chef Mike’s. In recent communication from Columbia Dining, they announced that from Monday to Friday from 11 am to 3:30 pm, traditional or vegan soup plus a bread roll will be available for $3.99.
