Bwog weighs in on finding a date in time for Valentine’s Day.
Dear Bwog,
I have no guts to ask guys out and guys have no guts to ask me out. Should I go on a dating app? what should I do?
Love,
Gutless Dater
Dear Gutless Dater,
It can be hard to ask someone out that you know well, because our fear of rejection and then seeing them again can make us feel awkward and uncomfortable. Dating apps, then, can make approaching potential options a lot less daunting. In my opinion, though, they make superficial connections too easy, and they can’t build your confidence or speaking skills as well as asking people out in real life can. However, there is middle ground—we are lucky enough to live in a beautiful, sprawling city filled with students and young adults coming from infinite places and backgrounds. There are plenty of people to ask out that you will never see again (should something go wrong). Try practicing this with someone in a part of the city that you don’t typically go to; your first step into building that confidence will help you make the first move for next time you like someone nearby.
Love,
Bwog
