The New York City Bar Association is advocating for the transfer of the remaining two elephants living at the Bronx Zoo to a sanctuary.

Happening in the World: President Trump has announced that he has plans to jettison three years of US policy to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, hoping to negotiate an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, though, has stated that he does not plan on accepting any peace deal that will not include his country in its talks. Zelenskyy, fearful of being set aside in the peace discussions, has stated that the prospect of identifying Putin as the only key player in these negotiations is “very dangerous.” (AP)

Happening in the US: Elon Musk has stated that he will rescind his $97.4 billion offer to the non-profit running OpenAI if they do not follow through on their plan to convert to a for-profit company. OpenAI, controlled by a non-profit board to maintain the public availability of safely maintained generative AI, has evolved into a quickly growing business. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman took to social media to reject the bid, telling questioners that he does not intend to sell to Musk. (AP)

Happening in NYC: The New York City Bar Association is advocating for the transfer of the Bronx Zoo’s remaining two elephants, Patty and Happy, to a sanctuary. The City Bar is arguing that the conditions the elephants live in are inadequate, causing them unnecessary stress and overall harm to their well-being. The Wildlife Conservation Society which operates the zoo maintains that the elephants are happy and healthy, but the legal team is demanding the city has a responsibility to act due to the zoo receiving taxpayer funding.
