(Re)inventing Genocide: Legal and Political Implications of the “Genocide of the Soviet People” in (post-)Soviet Russia

  • Monday, November 24, 12 to 1:30 pm, Marshall D. Shulman Seminar Room, 1219 International Affairs Building.
  • This event will discuss how Russia has redefined the idea of genocide. Speaker Dmitry Dubrovskiy, Research Fellow and lecturer at Charles University, will discuss the evolution of the concept of genocide from the Soviet era to today, discussing court rulings, state initiatives, and archival evidence. There will be a focus on the reclassification of Nazi crimes during World War II as a genocide of Russian people. The lecture will be hosted by the Harriman Institute and moderated by Elise Giuliano.
