Warm up with some arts and crafts!
Happening off-Campus: Nearly three feet of snow across different locations in the Northeast rattled daily operations, with more than 40 million people remaining under winter alerts. Thousands of flights have been cancelled nationwide, with the DC and New York area experiencing the most disturbances. 200 members of the national guard have been deployed in the eastern Massachusetts area, and a state of emergency has been in effect. In addition, many households have experienced power outages, with over 600,000 utility customers out of power across the region. (NBC)
Happening near Campus: NYC public schools will reopen in-person on Tuesday, announced Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Monday’s snow day was the first “traditional” snow day since 2019, before the transition to remote online learning due to the pandemic. Mamdani said that the New York State granted a waiver from the required 180 days of school to allow for the traditional snow day on Monday. Despite the snowy conditions and potential hazards with commutes, schools will be open. Lighter snow is to be expected on Wednesday. (Gothamist)
Happening on Campus: Columbia is hosting Crafts on the Corner: Sketch Sessions tomorrow from 12 to 1 pm at the Lee C. Bollinger Forum. It is an opportunity to enhance arts and crafts skills and connect with the community. All materials are provided and more information and registration can be found here.
