Paint with strangers tonight at the Low Library!

Happening off-campus: President Donald Trump delivered a State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress in the House chamber last night. Despite it being a midterm election year with the control of Congress on the line, Trump leaning heavily into campaign-style attacks. Throughout the speech, Trump blamed Democrats for rising affordability concerns, doubled down on his anti-immigration agenda, and touted what he described as a flourishing economy under his leadership. The address was filled with political spectacle. Not only was Trump attacking Democrats as “crazy” and “liars”, but Democrats were vocal back to him during his speech. Representative Al Green of Texas, who was ejected from the chamber last year for waving his cane at Trump, was once again removed after he held up a sign that read, “BLACK PEOPLE AREN’T APES”, a reference to a racist video that Trump had recently shared on social media. Trump also invited the gold medal winning US men’s hockey team into the chamber, and spent several minutes associating himself with their victory. He announced a Presidential Medal of Freedom for Team USA’s goalie, Connor Hellebuyck. (AP)

Happening near campus: More snow is in the forecast for the New York metro area this week as the city continues to recover from Monday’s blizzard that dumped at least 20 inches across the five boroughs. Forecasters say the next round of winter weather could arrive overnight Thursday into Friday. While it is expected to bring only an inch or two of additional snowfall, this light accumulation could prolong icy conditions and slow cleanup efforts. Meanwhile, the city remains under a Code Blue designation through this morning amid dangerously cold temperatures. City shelters along with dozens of hospitals are operating under an open-door policy during this emergency period. (Gothamist)
