Though this workshop would probably have been more appropriate at Columbia circa 1982, things around Columbia have been prettycrazy lately. Constant vigilance!
@Anonymous You know, it is a bit sketchy that you don’t even bother to put a “Comment deleted by moderator” notice or something, like you used to do a few years ago. Deleting the whole comment, timestamp and all, is just shady, even if you’re justified.
@Eliza We deleted an anti-Semitic comment that was both offensive and totally irreverent. Please consult our comment policy or email eliza@bwog.com if you have any questions.
@Anonymous Eliza, you seem to have a pretty interesting and broad conception of “anti-Semitic.” Krav Maga is a martial arts system used by the Israeli military. As you may or may not have heard, the Israeli military is kind of controversial these days. As a Jew, a student of Middle Eastern history, and a Columbia student, I am FED UP with people assuming that any criticism of Israel and the people who adore it–irreverent or not–is “anti-Semitic.” Was my comment irreverent? Sure. Was it offensive? Maybe to the kind of person who would sign up for Krav Maga classes for the reasons I was poking fun at. Was it “anti-Semitic”? Only to someone who equates Israel and its partisans with all Jews everywhere–which, ironically enough, is exactly what Israel’s defenders accuse anti-Zionists of when they equate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism. Maybe you should make it clear on all posts relating to Israel that criticism or satire that paints Israel and/or Zionists in a negative light won’t be tolerated.
@Eliza I appreciate your response, but this is not the forum to have a discussion about this issue. Please see this part of our comment policy:
There are bounds on that discussion, however. We reserve the right to delete comments that are off-topic or that discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or spiritual belief. Self-promotional and advertorial comments may also be removed.
At the very least, your comment was completely irreverent (i.e off-topic) and the Bwog staff didn’t believe it should stay up on this post, which was intended to be light-hearted. Please contact me directly if you have any further questions.
@... I saw the original post and there was nothing “anti-Semitic” about it. Anti-Israeli, yes, but not anti-Semitic. It’s about time people learned that there’s a difference between the two.
Also, by “irreverent,” don’t you actually mean “irrelevant?” Because the former doesn’t make sense at all here, or in your earlier post.
The purpose of Bwog’s comment section is to facilitate honest and open discussion between members of the Columbia community. We encourage commenters to take advantage of—without abusing—the opportunity to engage in anonymous critical dialogue with other community members.
A comment may be moderated if it contains:
A slur—defined as a pejorative derogatory phrase—based on ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or spiritual belief

Just sayin’.
@Eliza I’ve spoken to the original commenter personally and we’ve resolved this issue.
