Big news for frat row! Sigma Alpha Epsilon will join the Columbia Greek community next fall after being approved by the Interfraternal Council on Wednesday, according to one of its founders. Two students, Anirbar Poddar CC’14 and Kofi Agyapong CC’15, spearheaded the effort to bring SAE to Columbia, the only Ivy League school without a chapter.
After the long process leading up to Wednesday’s decision, the two founders still have to meet a number of requirements over the next year before they gain full recognition from the university, so it doesn’t look like they’ll be throwing any NSOP ragers for a while. The “colony,” as it’s called, will need approval from both Columbia and SAE nationals in order to become a legitimate chapter. SAE has been in the news recently for hazing incidents at Dartmouth and Cornell, but the IFC nonetheless gave the green light to start a trial period for the organization. As the nation’s second largest fraternity, SAE has over 300,000 initiated members with 247 chapter and 17 colonies across the country. Looks like we can add Columbia to that list.

@Anonymous Does the SAE team on campus get any say on this? This is gonna cause so much confusion now…
@Anonymous I for one will be calling 911 on your sorry asses! Make some noise, keep it up you nasty mysoginist, raping, dick heads.
@Anonymous someone is mad that they werent invited to the party…
@Anonymous I hear cars also cause deaths too. Lets ban them all.
No but seriously, it’s not a question of whether you like frats or not. Lets just hope our chapter sets a better example than others.
Sincerely,
Someone who honestly doesn’t see the point of frats but doesn’t see the point of infringing upon others’ rights to enjoy them.
@Anonymous I think you could make the argument that fraternities unnecessarily segment the school population and hurt the overall social atmosphere. I don’t think you would be a bad person for thinking that. You could still acknowledge their right to exist and yet be unhappy about them existing all the same.
My opinion of them is slightly more positive than that, but there you go.
@Anonymous implying school population isn’t already segmented
implying social atmosphere
@yeah but which caused which?
@Anonymous Yeah, the SAE team is contributing to the deaths of thousands of Americans each year!
@Anonymous Cornell kicked them out. There are also death, rape, and hazing allegations pending at Cornell, Datmouth, and other schools across the US.
@Anonymous most frat rape claims are faked bc women regret consenting and often initiating sex the next morning in an effort to avoid being called a ‘slut’. so they end up ruining guys lives instead since the judge always believes their lies.
@Really? Are SigEp guys still allowed to comment on Bwog? Come on!!!
@Anonymous and how would you know this?
@Anonymous Fraternal bonds are tenuous beyond the local chapter. So don’t judge these guys, don’t judge foreign Pikes, and don’t trust foreign AEPi’s.
@Anonymous wtf’s a frat colony?
@Anonymous your face
@Anonymous oh hey, YOU SUCK!
@Seriously though I was also wondering that! What’s a frat colony?
@anon It’s like pledging a national fraternity.
National fraternities want to make sure you’re not a bunch of tools/winos/whatever they’re worried about. So it’s like a trial run. You do good, you get a charter. You do bad, you don’t get to be in their fraternity.
@Anonymous fuck this so much
@well... haters gonna hate
@The Cloaked Darkness yeah who would support this but spec?!?!?! spec_sucks!!!
