Following an unprecedented series of closures, Columbia and Barnard have decided to hold online classes for the remainder of the spring semester.

As an increasing number of institutions move to virtual courses for the remainder of the academic year, the Ivy League has decided to shut down all athletic programming for this upcoming spring season.

Barnard and Columbia have extended online classes to the week after the upcoming break, according to emails sent out by Presidents Bollinger and Beilock earlier today.

Barnard and Columbia classes have been canceled Monday March 9 and Tuesday March 10, with remote classes beginning Wednesday March 11, after a student was reported to have been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case, according to emails sent to students by Presidents Bollinger and Beilock tonight.

Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Jessica Marinaccio announced that Columbia will be canceling Days on Campus due to “evolving information about COVID-19” in an email to admitted students Friday afternoon. 

Travel outside the United States funded or organized by Columbia has been suspended until further notice according to a statement put out by Interim Provost Ira Katznelson Tuesday morning.

President Beilock and Dean Grinage announced the speakers and medalists for the Spring 2020 graduation this afternoon in an email to all Barnard students.

Malika Jones (BC ’20) was charged with murder and two weapons counts after her mother was killed in an apparent domestic dispute in their New Jersey home. She was released pending her trial following nearly 40 letters of support from friends, family, and professors.
