Barnard Student Wins Best Bacchanal Story By Hooking Up With Swae Lee

Written by

A true hero

Everyone has been sharing their best Bacchanal war stories, but one student may have officially won the contest. Late last night, a Barnard student publicly posted in the public Facebook group “Overheard @ Barnard” a picture that appears to be them and Swae Lee, one brother of the Bacchanal headliner group named Rae Sremmurd. The photo includes the caption, “Hey everyone I fucked rae sremmurd just thought I’d let u know #tmzgetatme.”

The post incited a storm of comments on the picture, including conversations about consent. Students both praised the student for their courageous feat as well as questioned the consent for the hookup and the picture. The student in the picture defended themselves in the comments, saying that both they and Swae Lee consented to the hookup and post-hookup photo. Regardless of your position on the situation, it’s going to be tough beating the story that you fucked the headliner when you discuss Bacchanal in your Monday lectures.

Update, 12:43 PM: The admin for the Overheard @ Barnard Facebook group has deleted the post along with the comments. The post cites that the post was removed primarily for the comments as well as the fact prospective Barnard students could view the public post. The admin also explained “higher ups” contacted them to delete the post. We have reached out to the group’s admin for further comment. The full post is below.

Hey friends. I had to take down a post recently. I want you all to know that is it not due to the posts content but rather the comment section. I took it down because this group is open to the public and specifically prospective students. This was a little bit out of my control (I was contacted by higher ups). I am not actively trying to censor anything and this is the first time since the creation of this page that I have taken anything down. I hope you understand and are patient with me.

Update, 1:10pm: According to the Overheard @ Barnard admin, a Barnard Student Admissions Representative (BSAR) who monitors the Class of 2020 Facebook page contacted the Overheard @ Barnard admin about the post because the “comments were out of hand and fairly negative [toward the original poster.]” The Overheard @ Barnard admin was told that, if the post remained on the page, the BSAR would have to report it to the admissions office. The Overheard @ Barnard admin told Bwog that they were “worried for the future of the page” and “didn’t want the original poster to have to deal with [the] administration because it was a fun post with good intentions.” Bwog is reaching out to the BSAR for comment on the protocol for reporting social media posts to the admissions office. We are also looking into whether or not the original poster would have had to deal with any repercussions from the administration.

Update, 2:00pm: Bwog has spoken with the BSAR who originally contacted the Overheard @ Barnard admin. She is one of several BSARs who monitor the Class of 2020 Facebook page, and said that when she saw the comments on the Swae Lee picture “alarms did go off in my head, because I know it would be off-putting for me if I were a prospective student…The hostility that I was starting to see in the comments I don’t think were even reflective of the Barnard community.” She added,

“The problem I saw was not with the photo itself but with the comments. In short, Barnard Admissions did not ask me to look for or censor the page, but I do feel like it is my responsibility as a BSAR to report it to them if need be so that they can do whatever they feel is necessary to make sure it doesn’t impact what they’ve worked so hard all year to accomplish for our school.”

Why don't you do some actual journalism and find out if she actually had consent?

If she did, that's great. If she didn't, this is horrible.

    • anon

he posted her on his snapchat so i think it's chill

    • ya

Gotta say, it wasn't clear from what she wrote (before it was taken down) that he explicitly said ok to taking the pic and distributing it - he looks passed out. She seemed to just be talking about the sex.

Not that I think it's just that that sounded weird, she also wrote something about her and her reluctant friend getting pulled into a van, identified herself as a rape survivor, and repeatedly asserted that he 'didn't care about consent' so like I don't feel great being like you go girl on this one

Why don't you shut the fuck up. Fuck some of the kids at Columbia and Barnard. Always looking for something to get ass hurt about.

That's the guy! He gave me his mixtape on the subway last week!

"Students both praised the student for her courageous feat..." Is that not a little insulting?

"Oh my gosh, look at all of the courage she had to work up to have sex with *insert any possible descriptor here*"
"It must have been so hard for her to do that."

  4. WTF

If a man had done this it would be said that he was flaunting his sexual exploits at the cost of the women. And would probably be facing some kind of official AND unofficial repercussions from the administration and the femme-nazis.

Who cares? More important than her being able to freely have with whatever black person she wants for status, is is not giving a shit.

  6. Barnard Student

"Look everyone, I'm a low-life skank, and desperate for attention!"

  7. Divest from Barnard

That comment section was embarrassing. I would expect people at an elite liberal arts college to have a decent grasp of the English language, but apparently that is too much to ask for.

Barnard...what a joke of a school. How about those bold and beautiful Columbia University women? I doesn't surprise me that a Barnard woman has relegated herself to the status of a minor groupie. Also, I would suggest she gets herself tested. She may not be the first random he's stuck his dick into.

What poor taste, and plain foolish! This poor mixed up thing and her apparently useless friends need to keep a hotline number on hand. (like 800-799-SAFE) where a trained advocate can help her re being abused by beasts and help with STDs. I've seen the stats.. It's coming!

BTW-No idea what these stats are not posted all over every college.

lol this school is so delusional about how the world really works. very classless thing to do. regardless of your opinion on the photo, it will follow her for the rest of her life. It could prevent her from getting certain jobs, and it is likely that her parents, family, and future children (should she have any) will all know about this.

However you feel about her "hero or ho" status, it is an objectively a quite stupid thing to do.

  12. Yeah Right

Yeah, she definitely did not receive consent for this at all. He replied to the picture this morning on twitter saying "you're foul for this" and then denied having sex with her. She didn't even know his name (Swae Lee) and kept referring to him as Rae Sremmurd, which is the group name (ear drummers spelled backwards). She commodified him and then stole numbers out of his phone. The amount of audacity she's exhibited here is beyond ridiculous, especially seeing as how her (and her Barnard kind) are always talking about consent and commodification of women.

Also, it is a race issue. Swae Lee has had to come out and publicly say he did not give her those black eyes. There's no way not to racialize the situation given her position of power, knowing damn well that whatever she says happened last night will be the story of record because she's a fragile, rich white girl who was likely wasted and who's going through a "phase" and he's a black male rapper. Give me a break.

Dorothy, waitta embarrass your sister Alex.

    • anon

why would you bring her sister into this??

    • tbh

I agree with your analysis, esp of how people who consider themselves to be politically aware (see her work with NRT) can massively fuck up on issues like race or consent and simply not see it. But am now also kind of worried about this girl, bc she's posting on twitter claiming to have got hired by somewhere and that she's pregnant with the dude's baby and that she stole $10k from him. Prob just weird humor and not delusion but she keeps mentioning she's concussed -- maybe there's something else going on here besides straight up audacity and abuse of privilege. I hope her friends and fam are looking out for her in more careful ways than simply validating her interpretation of her choices - my guess is she might need some help.

because i @'d the overheard at barnard admin... lol y'all need to get a backbone. (talking once again to u the admin who claims to be all about social justice)
-its in such good fun that an adult woman posts a sexual picture with clearly unconscious individual????

imma say this again-- that is not good fun honestly go read a book

  14. The Wizard of Oz

bet dorothy wishes she could just click her heels and undo this

  15. I think we're missing the bigger issue

why does the school get to decide what we can and can't say ? just because it could shock prospective students? does that justify their restrictions on us?

I don't think so. I think we shouldn't all assume and respect the conservative ethics of today's 18 year olds. I think the school is deploying this discussion of prospective students in order to justify its crackdown on our speech. And I think that we need to allow Dorothy's public speech to be engaged with as people like. It's location on a page referencing Barnard really shouldn't suddenly give them the power to decide who can and cannot speak based on their powers.

don't silence dorothy - attack the silencers!
